DISCOVERING NEW HORIZONS IN INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

The key to understanding emotion may be through understanding the impact of facial neurology

Let's think about the many aspects of human emotion that are created through the face:

  • We kiss and share intimacy with the face and mouth
  • Babies find comfort by stimulating the oral environment through sucking their thumbs and pacifiers
  • Adults seek comfort or simulation through chewing gum, clenching teeth and many other forms of sensation-seeking behaviors that are unique to the needs of the individual
  • We communicate emotion through words spoken with lips and tongues
  • Our facial expressions can speak more than a thousand words
  • We taste the food and drink that brings us joy and comfort

Understanding and recreating these familiar and comfortable sensations in the oral and facial environments are a meaningful part of the wellness model that is shared by ALF Therapy and Havening.

By understanding and harnessing the power of the connections between the oral environment and emotional well-being, dental and orthodontic providers have the unique ability to support emotional health as well as beautiful smiles.

  • Havening touches are applied to the outside of the face, arms and hands
  • ALF, OraLase,& BabyLase therapies are applied to the inside of the face through the mouth, lips, cheeks and tongue

They all harness the power of the cranial nerve and limbic systems to optimize the sensations that make us feel comforted and supported through neuroscience.

Finding a safe haven

The ALF Therapy and Havening communities have a lot in common and have developed a supportive and synergistic relationship over the years.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, mutual interests and a deep desire to serve our patients with the most innovative and groundbreaking techniques, a beautiful opportunity has been created for our providers and our patients.

Did you know that Havening was developed by brothers:  one a dentist/hypnotherapist and the other a physician/researcher passionate about understanding neuroscience?

SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Disclaimers and statements of awareness

It needs to be clearly stated that dental and orthodontic providers are aware that the scope of practice of dentistry allows for opportunities for healing as well as limitations created by legal restrictions.

Dental and orthodontic therapies are delivered to the area of the body that is within the scope of practice of the dental provider.  This includes the services provided through ALF Therapy, OraLase and BabyLase..

Effects of carefully designed and delivered dental therapies are known to influence other areas of the body that are connected to the oral environment.  In fact, there are many aspects of health that are well documented to be influenced by dental therapies that include and are not limited to:

  • Airway function
  • Systemic inflammation linked to heart disease, pancreatic cancer, erectile dysfunction, strokes, low birthweight/pre-term delivered babies
  • Craniofacial growth
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Movement disorders
  • Sleep disordered breathing and sleep apnea

Emotional health is just one of many aspects of wellness that can be influenced by the oral environment and embraced by the ALF Therapy, OraLase and BabyLase provider communities.
